وجرت اتصالات متبادلة عبر سنوات عديدة بين مبارك من ناحية والحاخام عوفاديا يوسف ورئيس حزب شاس وزير الداخلية ايلي بشاي من ناحية أخرى، إذ أطلقت السلطات المصرية سراح الصحفي الإسرائيلي يوتام فيلدمان الذي اتهم بالقيام بعمليات تجسس بوساطة من بشاري وهي الرسالة التي رد عليها مبارك بطمأنة عوفاديا علي صحته شاكراً له اهتمامه.
